Many patients wonder if they have waited too long to enjoy the benefits of implant dentistry. The good news is that age by itself is not a limiting factor. There are many examples of patients in their 80’s and 90’s who elect to proceed with dental implant treatment. After treatment, they are very pleased with their decision.
While age by itself will not disqualify someone from being a candidate for dental implants, doctors are careful to assess each patient’s overall health. Patients who have significant or chronic medical conditions may not be good candidates for dental implants. Examples include some patients who are receiving chemotherapy for cancer or patients who have uncontrolled diabetes.
